Denton receives MADD award

Last Tuesday, November 10 at 2:00p.m. at the Square Event Center in the Downtown area in Bryan, Texas, the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) held their annual Heroes of the Highway Awards Ceremony. The MADD Bryan office serves fifteen counties and Robertson County is one of the many.

Chili weather just in time

The Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department is having their Chili Feast on Saturday, November 21 starting at 11:00 a.m. with the cost being $8.00 a plate. The Blackjack Fire Department will be the happening place with home cooked chili and the fixings.

Commissioners’ table action on Safari animal expansion

Almost every seat in the courtroom was filled for a commissioners’ court meeting that proved to be rather uneventful. “Possible action on request from Jason Clay of the Franklin Safari” might have been the draw, but the Court’s decision hung in part on statements from the Robertson County Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s offices concerning the availability of law enforcement  to handle the potential escape of a dangerous animals.

Does the definition say it all?

The definition of the word Veterans Day, by the dictionary is: a public holiday held on the anniversary of the end of World War I (November 11) to honor US veterans and victims of all wars. It replaced Armistice Day in 1954.

War, sacrifice and America’s Veterans

While we can all rejoice this Veterans Day that the steady flow of U.S. casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan has slowed to a trickle, we must never forget the incredible sacrifice that America’s defenders continue to make on our behalf. Such is the case of Master Sergeant Joshua Wheeler, who died leading a Delta Force rescue mission of ISIS hostages held in Iraq on Oct. 22.

It’s all about the kids on Halloween

The day was turning out to be doom and gloom for the Fifth Annual Trunk or Treat, but the Hearne Police  epartment was just not going to let the weather keep everyone from having a good time, they were not having it. The original place for the Trunk or Treat is always on the practice field but with all the rain and the chance for more was not looking so hopeful but it was all solved when it was moved to the parking lot of the Donald Steven Davis Gym.

Hearne Day of rememberance

On Wednesday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m., the Hearne American Legion will be honoring America’s veterans at Guy Chandler Park on Fourth Street in Hearne. In a traditional Veterans Day Program, the Legion will lead veterans, friends and family through a time of grateful remembrance, aided by the Hearne High School band and guest speaker Sgt. Major Derrick Simpson of the US Army 3rd Corps stationed at Ft. Hood.

Entertaining with song and history

The Calvert Woman’s Club will be presenting, for the enjoyment of the community and surrounding towns the Texas A&M Singing Cadets Quartet. The Cadets will be sharing an educational walk down memory lane on the history of how it all started. The Cadets will also be sharing their musical talents singing for the event. Their program is entitled “Joy of Music”. The event will take place at the First Baptist Church located at 506 Elm Street (corner of Elm and Burnett) in Calvert, Texas on November 12, 2015 at 3:30 p.m.
