David Emory Garrett
David Emory Garrett, 59 years, 11 months, 3 days old, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at his home outside of Franklin. He was born Monday, September 20, 1954 in Hearne, Texas to Emory Garrett and Francis Fulton Garrett. David lived on this earth 21,887 days and all too quickly passed away from a fast-growing cancer. His death occurred a short six weeks after his diagnosis.
David graduated from Hearne High School and became a gravedigger, owning Garrett Cemetery Service. David was well respected in the industry and we appreciate all the many times he has made our job easier. *It was always nice to see a smiling face on the other side of a funeral and it was a privilege to know David as a businessman and as a friend .We are so thankful and blessed by his short journey here. His family, friends, and many funeral homes that trusted David and his crews to dig their graves will sorely miss him.
A visitation was held Monday, August 25, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home in Hearne. Graveside service and burial were held Tuesday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m. at Norwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Shawn Garrett, Chad Meadors, Robert Gober, Kenneth Hawkins, Terry Darnell, and Chris Richardson.
His parents and a brother, Tommy Garrett, preceded David in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jana Garrett of Franklin; his sons, Shawn Garrett of Bryan and Chad Meadors and wife, Tabitha of Franklin; his daughters, Jamie and husband, Robert Gober of Franklin and Leigh Sanders of Franklin; a brother, William Garrett of Houston; grandchildren, Tanner, Kadence, Kaylee, Hagen, Tucker, Micaleigh, Brittan, and Seth.
Arrangements were entrusted to Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home.
