Last chance, get those ballots turned in
I love Best of the Best month. It is always fun in the office to watch the ballots come flooding in from all over the county. The goal, get your favorite business, person or service the banner for the year.
Each year, The Robertson County News hosts a “Best of Robertson County” reader’s poll where you the reader have the chance to vote for your favorite businesses or persons.
Last year more than 1000 ballots hit the box in the news office, and 2014 is shaping up to be no different. In fact, already more than 800 ballots are here and this is the last week, so I expect many, many more.
The task can be a bit daunting for the news staff. We hand count each ballot and take on a new appreciation of the work that Trudy Hancock and her staff at the Robertson County Elections Administration face with every election.
Last year, I failed to make mention that the last week of voting was upon the reader, so this year I want to let everyone know, this is it, last chance, do it now, get at ‘em and in other words, vote now.
The Ballot box will be closed on July 16. Any mailed ballots will need to be postmarked with that date or before to be counted. You will have until 5:00 p.m. that Wednesday if you want to deliver them to the news office. We will not accept them after that time.
Winners of the Best of Reader’s Poll will have the chance to receive a banner that is displayed outside their business, all year long. The Robertson County News also produces a special section that will show all the results of how you, the reader, voted. That section will be in the final newspaper of July, which is July 31, 2014.
Please remember an official voting ballot must be used and you can find it on page 3 of this newspaper. The ballot has been printed in the last four issues of the Robertson County News and any of those are acceptable as well.
So, get out your pens and vote for your favorites, I know these businesses do appreciate your support each year.
Ashley, our office manager has asked me to include the following: “Please, I have to count all these ballots, pretty please send them as soon as you can.” I watched her ask that with a tear in her eye.
